Best of 2007
June 8, 2008Maybe I’ll redate this later, but things recently have put me in the mood to thank my lucky stars… or lucky charms… or trix or kix… or… the mercy of the cosmic giggle. *amen*
As April approached we had to look back as well. It was tax season. Since we were OWED money, we were not bound by the April 15th rule. Nevertheless, we looked back at 2007… and looked for deductions for several weeks until we actually filed with Joe Tax.
Then we began to look ahead to the return. Hmm, a turn he tot re-head… *phew~dizzy* Then we got the check.
Then we split it and spent it. Mine was converted to gold dollar coins.
and some small change.
Incredible shrinking dollar. Never underestimate the power of good cents.
To review and preview:
- In January of 2007 I took the Enterprise for Equity Business Readiness workshop. Now I’m poised to take the first ever E4E Summer Intensive, beginning in eight days.
- I was also switched from a substitute to a permanent employee with a retroactive pay raise. I was switched schools in March of 08. I’ve been informed of my ‘reasonable assurance’ of a position in fall.
- I took Paula Biggio’s workshop courtesy of the Big Foot Clown Alley and RNB’s Bobo Scholarship.
- I began serving coffee at the Oly UU. We signed the church book later that year. Trish joined the choir in 08. Orion attended Spirit Play. We all connected with friends and opportunities through the congregation.
- We paid many visits to Rusty Cock Ridge in 07-08, widening their circle of friends with our own.
- I had multiple clown bikes, and it’s time for a new one!
- Delivered my 1st pie on 4.1.07. I’ve delivered 24 in 08!
- Orion played his first team sport: soccer! And he agreed to do it again in 08!

- We went to Sasquatch Fest. Augh. We missed Bjork. We missed Mirah. We missed the Blow. We did stop at Dick and Jane’s spot and Roslyn.
- Trish went to the AMTA conventions.
- I got to go on a field trip to NW Trek for the first time.
- I got to work as a recovering Mad Scientist aka J.B.W.I., Justin Barnabas Wright, Inventor for Camp Invention, a week long experience leading a classroom of junior forensic scientists and inventors. Now I’m poised to sacrifice a 2nd time in order that I can take the E4E training.
- We went to Sherwood forest for the first time, and this time we may stay over the weekend of the 4th (missing two parades!).
- I attended my official 20th High School reunion, AND facilitated a kid-friendly BBQ the following day. Now mom’s yard needs emergency assistance again, and I’ve got to get money to Tony Bracco!
- I spent many hours with master gardener, Marci Sunshine, working her yard and painting her garage.
- I took a Sacred Clowning workshop in 07 and one in 08.
- I took a whole slew of autism workshops.
- We finally had a garage sale. We still need to purge and trade!
- We were visited by relatives from afar. Relatively, a farther.
- Jusby celebrated a lot of birthdays. At my new school a girl came up who recognized me from a party for her friend. She was a twin. She and her sister kept cutting in line, stepping on my lines, getting in my grill in other words. When it was face-painting time I gave them special treatment. When she saw me again in the classroom she asked,
“Why did you paint a C on my forehead?”
I replied, “Did I paint a D on your sister’s forehead?”
“Yes!”
“To tell you apart, of course!”
RCR pix from Mother’s Day
June 7, 2008On the eve of Father’s day, Orion and I went out to Rusty Cock Ridge to pick up our photos from mother’s day.
It was a quiet afternoon. We had Carolee all to ourselves for the better part of 3 hours. Orion had her for 47 minutes of it while I performed post-emergency clown counseling on the cell phone.
Five Pied Faces and a Life Lesson
April 20, 2008Trish and Orion are inside with the other friends and family. Joe arrives back from his fool’s errand: “to get sugar”. He asks, “Where’s Justin?” Trish replies, “He had to work.” Awww.
Ding-dong. Jusby’s at the door.
“Is this a birthday? I’m looking for a little girl, turning six years old. Where’s the birthday girl. I’m looking for a little girl named Joan Olan…”
“Oh, Joe Nolan! How old are you turning, little boy? SIXTY!? Well, I’m in town doing all the April birthdays, and wait a minute… There’s another Nolan… Elisabeth Nolan had a birthday ON the sixth, okay. And this guy here… When is your birthday, little boy? May? Well, I won’t be here then. It’s kind of a significant one, isn’t it? Eighteen. Yeah, I think you’re on the list for a pie too.”
Anybody else? Yup, this guy, Mark is an April birthday too.
His wife didn’t mind helping clean him up.
Speaking of wives. The lady of the house who approved the whole thing is right under here.
Grama Jill has a great sense of humor.
Her son, Adam, has a great sense of self-preservation, and a weapon.
His words of caution to Jusby, “Dude, I’ll ruin the vibe for hours. Seriously, don’t even try it. I have issues about the invasion of my personal space.”
Life Lesson: No means NO! and be prepared to do your own laundry when the pie starts to fly.
T’s B-day Pie
February 27, 2008Valentine’s Day (part 3)
February 23, 2008It was 9:30 pm, and we took Mimi Terry’s gift card and strolled into Cielo Blu. We weren’t sure if the kitchen was still open. The man said, “We’ll take care of you.”
Trish had gone in before and ordered a Pumpkin Pie martini. This time she wanted to try something else the bartender had mentioned. Something with balsamic vinegar!
He asked, “The Hibiscus Martini? Oh, yes. We have that. It has hibiscus nectar, the 500 year old balsamic and orange bitters.”
She said, “Oooo, I want one of those.” I ordered a grasshopper.
Valentine’s Day (part 2)
February 22, 2008Then swimming at Brigg’s. Trish went to exercise. Nick and I watched Orion in the activity pool.
Nick wore Trish’s goggles and a spare suit of mine.
Now we don’t know where her goggles are. She loved them so. They were my winter solstice gift.
Afterwards, Nick and Orion shared a pizza from Brewery City.
Nick had Olives and Mushrooms on his half. Orion had plain cheese!
Then we left them to have our romantic evening.
Shopping Local
December 6, 2007Jusby’s done some of his holiday shopping already.
He went to Orca Books for three gifts.
He went to Wind up Here for several gifts…
including a playmobil set for Orion (shhhh…)
Orion also gets gifts on Winter Solstice. He’ll get a headlamp, a clip-light for the car, and a color changing light that attaches to the bathroom sink.
What are readers buying/selling/ trading?
Remember that Jusby and Trish are participating in the Thurston County Waste Free Holidays program again this year!

Rusty Cock Ridge Again
November 11, 2007On the Sunday before Halloween, we’d gone out to Rusty Cock Ridge for their annual free shoot. Today I picked up my two free 8″ x 10″s.
I went with Marci Sunshine and Bubble Trouble (with her b/f Tim) to get some clowny type shots.
Then Trish arrived later with Orion, Oma, Uncle Nick, and our friend Sarah (who I met in AmeriCorps).
This shot has interesting geometry.
This shot has action!
By the way, Rusty Cock Ridge, is sort of like an urban legend. The public can’t just go there, but every weekend they have an open house, and if you know someone who has gone, they can invite you along for homemade root beer floats and soup.
