Even more chipotle!

February 26, 2008

Saturday was Trish’s birthday, and she wanted to spend it with Michelle at the Korean Women’s Day Spa in Lynwood.

Orion and I would spend the day with Guido, Gavin and William. And Rayanne and Dean, as it turns out… in Monroe.

We left Tumwater before breakfast, so we stopped at the Kirkland Brown Bag Cafe (No Sissy Food Here!).

IT S GOOD TO BE SATISFIED

It was packed! They said it would be a twenty-minute wait, so we used the facilities and started looking at the menu (pdf). Trish spotted the word CHIPOTLE in a spicy breakfast item called the Diablo.

Julienne spicy chicken sautéed with fresh jalapeños, cilantro, tomato, red and green bell peppers, onions and spices. Made with spicy black beans, cheddar and sour cream topping. Served with a side of chipotle salsa. This one is hot as the devil. 10.95

Served with hash browns and toast

Our server asked, “Omelette style or skillet style?” We asked, “Skillet style? What’s that?” She replied, “With the hash browns on the bottom.” So we tried that with Rye toast.

A couple of dreams

February 25, 2008

I had a dream about calling into Radio 8 Ball with Orion. We got a “song” that was 80.8 minutes long. It was very experimental and full of subtle ambient noise.

We went over to Andras’ apartment to get a copy of it. Andras met us and handed me a very old book, like Dante’s Inferno. It was open, and I was guessing that I should be looking for Canto 800, line 8 or something.

Andras’ apartment was much larger than his IRL apartment. He excused himself to go back to his exercycle on his patio.

michelino_danteandhispoem.jpg

[I just googled the phrase: Dante "Canto 800" and came up with

851.1 DANTE Dante Alighieri, 126 The Inferno of Dante
on this page http://www.lincc.lib.or.us/lf/lo-audio.txt which is the Clackamas County library network that includes the WEST LINN LIBRARY! Deeper research yields that 851.1 Dante also covers The Divine Comedy, 10 audio cassettes of 15 hrs or 9 CDs… The work is divided into three parts, Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso that total only 100 Cantos.  It begins on Good Friday.  Dante was 35.

Well, I’m a little older, almost 39, but Good Friday is coming up.  I’m thinking I should get these CDs.

I also had a dream this morning in which I was gathering together with other butoh critters for a performance.  I lived in a communal house adjacent to Evergreen.  doranne was there during the brainstorming of choreography.  Someone mentioned the image of canoeing or paddling some other kind of boat.

doranne said decisively, “no, a canoe, yes.”  and I suddenly could glide through the air as if paddling an invisible canoe about campus.

Kagami Butoh Reunion postponed until summer

February 24, 2008

Due to scheduling conflicts in April, original members of the butoh troupe, Kagami, would
prefer to gather this summer.

This leaves Jusby wide-open for engagements during Spring Break, April 5 -13th.

I’ll probably have a party on MY BIRTHDAY, Friday, April 11th!

a tadpole tale – from Grumps

February 24, 2008

originally posted in News From Frogtown, Grampa Dave’s blog.

Current temp at Frogtown is 4.7° actual. Wind chill is about -20.

Got some nifty snow devils going out in the field.

Not to be perverse or anything, but we could use a little global warming in our micro cosmism

Which reminds me of a story (from The Tadpole Tales)…

bpbldg.jpg

When I was a kid – maybe 7 or 8- back at Burns Park Elementary, us boys would sneak off behind the school during recess. It was dark and quiet there. Cool place to hang out, away from the girls and teachers.

One day a Fred was picking his nose. Then he flicked the booger at a lady bug crawling along the ground. He missed, fortunately for the lady bug.

Next thing you know couple of other kids were trying to hit the bug. All of them missed. But it was entertaining.

We made up “rules”:

1) the one who hits closest to the target wins.

    - since the lady bug had moved on – a rock near her original location.

2) ya had to stand behind the foul line – a stick
3) we had to take turns.
4) spitying and lougies counted half points.
5) We had to take turns.
6) No girls allowed – they thought it was gross anyway
7) No telling teachers or parents.

Really Big Shoe Two

February 24, 2008

The Red Nose Brigade helped raise a lot of money for Community Youth Services by asking show-goers to donate money into our Really Big Shoes.

My pitch: “I need some Really Big Socks here, folks! Phew! I need the giant Odor Eaters. Pitch in to help pay what I owe to Dr. Schoal’s. No actually, it’s for the kids. They’ve got no socks. They’ve got no shoes. They get no service! They can’t afford the top hat. They can’t afford the cummerbund. They can’t afford the spats. Hey, it looks like you can afford a cookie. How about giving to the kids who don’t eat dinner?”

Valentine’s Day (part 3)

February 23, 2008

It was 9:30 pm, and we took Mimi Terry’s gift card and strolled into Cielo Blu. We weren’t sure if the kitchen was still open. The man said, “We’ll take care of you.”

Trish had gone in before and ordered a Pumpkin Pie martini. This time she wanted to try something else the bartender had mentioned. Something with balsamic vinegar!

He asked, “The Hibiscus Martini? Oh, yes. We have that. It has hibiscus nectar, the 500 year old balsamic and orange bitters.”

She said, “Oooo, I want one of those.” I ordered a grasshopper.

Valentine’s Day (part 2)

February 22, 2008

Then swimming at Brigg’s. Trish went to exercise. Nick and I watched Orion in the activity pool.

Nick wore Trish’s goggles and a spare suit of mine.

nickingoggles.jpg

Now we don’t know where her goggles are. She loved them so. They were my winter solstice gift.

Afterwards, Nick and Orion shared a pizza from Brewery City.

Nick had Olives and Mushrooms on his half. Orion had plain cheese!

Then we left them to have our romantic evening.

Valentine’s Day (part 1)

February 21, 2008

In March we commemorate the time Saint Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland.

In February we commemorate the time Saint Patrick drove the chocolate turtles out of Switzerland.

At 7:30 AM on V-Day, Trish was dressed and moving fast. She said, “I’ll be right back.”

I thought, “Oh, how sneaky. She left a card or gift in the car. Oh, that’s the car starting… and that’s her driving away… well, she’ll be back in a few minutes.”

So, I got up and discovered that she’d already made huge cards for the both of us with a list of Sweet things that we do.

Orion and I then made heart-shaped pancakes from scratch by mostly following a recipe from the Joy of Cooking. I substituted a mix of Rice/ Almond flour, Bob’s Red Mill Coconut Flour, and Barley flour for the wheat flour.

Around 8:00 AM Trish returned with two grocery bags that included heart-shaped bagels and strawberry cream cheese.

Orion chose the bagels, and we put the pancakes in the fridge.

Then we left for school and work and working-at-school. I made pop-up Lego-inspired Valentine’s cards for Orion.

vdcard.jpg

I’d arranged for Uncle Nick to come and babysit. He was supposed to arrive by train around 4:40. Trish would ordinarily be at St. Martin’s until 3:30, but she’d work later and pick him up.

However, at 2:00 my phone rang. Uncle Nick asked, “What are you doing?”

“I’m working,” I said and asked, ” What are you doing?”

“I’m standing at the Olympia/ Lacey train station,” he replied.

“I’d love to pick you up, but I don’t have the car. I expected you on the later train. Do you have Trish’s cell number? (Yes) Call her and get back to me.” I instructed.

At 2:14 I hadn’t heard back yet, so I tried Trish. She usually leaves her phone off during sessions. It’s not polite to interrupt a peaceful massage with an electronic Charge of the Light Brigade.

I let her know the situation, since he hadn’t reached her. At 2:41 [synchronistic inverse of 2/14] I got a text message from him: “Trish is picking me up at 3:30″. I replied: “kewl”
